Tools Rule For Valentine's Romance

72% of UK singles would date a tradesperson this Valentine’s Day – not because of rugged sex appeal but rather a stable career path and the chance to save money on home repairs.

Curiously, it is not window fitters or builders or even electricians that spark the romantic glow but gardeners who top the table as the most datable.

Called back just for a flirt

All of this comes from a survey of nearly 1,600 UK singles, commissioned by HaMuch – a site for finding tradespeople (for jobs not dates).

The survey says 72% of UK singles would be open to dating a tradesperson this Valentine’s Day and14% of those surveyed admitted to having previously flirted with a tradesperson that they’ve employed.

What’s more, one in 10 have gone as far as calling them back to their home to fix an imaginary or self-made issue so they had the chance to flirt with them some more.

Trade appeal

As we know, gardeners ranked as the most datable, closely followed by electricians, with builders and carpenters also ranking in the top five, along with car mechanics. When asked why they would want to date a tradesperson, just 3% stated it was down to a sexual fantasy. The key reason? UK singles find the prospect of a significant other with a stable career choice appealing, with the ability to save money on home repairs also ranking highly.

HaMuch

The founder and CEO of HaMuch.com, Tarquin Purdie, says: “Times are changing and when it comes to dating, the appeal of a tradesperson is no longer driven by the prospect of a rollabout in the tool shed with a good looking gardener, rather the job stability and cost saving potential that a career in the trades provides.  “Whilst this puts a bit of a dampener on the romanticised image previously held by tradespeople, it does make sense given the far higher cost of living that we’re now contending with, which is particularly tough for those living on their own.

“But this Valentine’s Day we would like to remind the nation’s singles that our app is purely for finding skilled tradespeople, so please don’t flock to it in hopes of finding love.”
